Vintage Winterling Plate Decorated by LES Porcelaine with Engel Decor circa 1950
This lovely decorative plate was decorated by LES Porcelaine who, I believe, came from the Alsace region of France around 1950. It depicts a much older scene from the region. The mother has brought her son to say hello to granny who is sitting spinning her wool. The time is 12.30pm and they are in their Sunday best so would be off to church. The mother is carrying a basket of eggs for granny. Such a pretty scene and signed by the artist Engel. A little difficult to track down as Engle means Angel in German.
Winterling started life in Bavaria in 1907 and eventually went bankrupt in 2000. The factory mark that is visible under the over-stamp from the decorators is clearly the mark from the 1950s.
The plate is in perfect condition with no chips or scratches and measures 10 inches in diameter. It has a mount attached to the back for wall mounting.
