Vintage Christian Plaques of The Virgin Mary and Christ, Pressed Bronze by Artilux, Signed HCD, Excellent Condition Circa 1950/60s, Ex Voto
I was born in the 50s and I remember well the simple curves and style that went with that era and stretched on into the 1960s.
These lovely wall plaques are from that era and were made by Artilux of France. The artist has signed the pieces with his or her initials which are H.C.D. The Artilux brand mark is on the reverse with Modele Depose which means that it is a registered design.
The plaque of The Virgin Mary shows Her with a beautifully detailed headress covered in flowers.
That of Christ shows Him with the crown of thorns.
Each plaque is 9.5 inches wide, 8 inches tall and 1.5 inches deep.
They are made from pressed bronze which has been mounted onto a matt finished deep blue board that is 1 cm thick. This has then been surrounded by a bronze strip.
They are both in excellent condition.
I have described them as 'Ex Voto' because they had previously been gifted to a chapel which fell into disrepair.
Interestingly I discovered a mirror by Artilux on sale for $329 at Pamono.com
