A beautiful and important reliquary of The True Cross of Jesus Christ.
This is a gilded bronze theca that has been wrapped in paper. Probably because it was originally in an ostensoir.
The cords securing the relic are intact and covered where they cross with the was seal of a Cardinal of France.
Clearly this is a Cardinal as there is the Galero above and by the sides there are 15 tassels on each side which indicate a Cardinal.
The writing inside reads: Ex Ligno Verae Crucis Domini Nostri Jesu Christi
Wood of the Most Holy True Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Which, under strictest veneration, was removed from authentic locations, and enclosed in a round brass theca.
