Our Lady Of Lourdes Bust, Statue ND De Lourdes by C Maillard, 21 centimetres Tall
Firstly this amazing statue is not plaster. It is made from a mix of ground marble and plaster and then cast in a lost wax mold. It has the look and feel and weight of Parian marble.
This lovely bust was in awful condition when I found it as it had clearly lived above a smky fire for many decades and then left out in the open air. However, lots of TLC and elbow grease has bought her back to pristine condition and she is now loking for a proper loving home.
It has the most wonderful finish called 'cire' in France which is smooth and satiny due to the casting method.
Maillard often used this medium and the result is exceptional. Also it is heavy as it is solid and the statue weighs in at 4.5 kilos.
The pose is the classic of Our Lady Of Lourdes, Notre Dame De Lourdes and it has an ingot set into the base to confirm its creation by Maillard.
In total the statue is 21 centimetres tall, 9 centimetres deep and 19 centimetres wide. It weighs 1.4 kilos and this reflects the price to include shipping.
The nose of Our Blessed Mother had been broken at some time and repaired. I could have repaired it so that it would not be noticeable but I prefer to leave it.
