Enamelled Bronze Pendant Cross, French, Circa 1820, Cross 11.5 x 6 cm
I have estimated the age of this beautiful cross to be around 1820 but it could be much older.
It is hand made and enamelled and is made of solid bronze. At the foot of the wonderful Corpus Christi is and image of The Virgin Mary which is wher she was when Christ was crucified.
The square in the centre of the cross behind Jesus's head, have four fleur de lys, the symbol of France.
Another emblem has been used seven times on this cross. Behind each of Christ's hands, behind His head and at the four points of the cross.
I confess that I have researched and still do not know what this symbol is, so if anyone knows please contact me.
