Maria Caullet Nantard was born in Lyon in France in 1876 and first exhibited at the Exhibition of French Artists in Paris in 1907 and obtained a gold medal that year. A brilliant sculptor and painter she went on to exhibit many times between 1931 and 1939.

Pieces by her command very high prices and a small statue recently sold at auction for €299.

This wonderful bronze of Our Blessed Mother the Virgin Mary is elegant and beautiful. I have long been a great fan of her work and this is the first framed version that I have seen.

Nantard worked in several mediums as she was both a painter and sculptor.

The French are very proud of their artistic heritage and the government has catalogued every piece that they consider of great artistic merit on their heritage site. Maria Caullet Nantard has several mentions in that catalogue.

I absolutely adore her work. It has such style and quality and superb detail. Each piece was hand cast and finished by her and each one is unique.
