Archangel Michael Defeating The Devil by Amilcare Santini In Faux Ivory on Marble Base, Circa 1960

The material is not ivory but a compound of marble, alabaster and resin that was poured into a mold and then hand-finished. It is this process that gives the staue its beautiful creamy ivory like finish.

Amilcare Santini was a sculptor born in Florence, Italy in 1910. His firm reproduces sculptures based on his original designs, and those of several other artists. Though he died in 1975, the firm remains in business and is still run by his family.

This beautiful statue depicts Michael The Archangel defeating the devil and is taken from the statue by Herbert Gerhard at the Jesuit college church of St Michael in Munich.

This lovely creamy coloured statue measures 22 cm tall and is 14 cm at its widest point, not including the marble base whic is 7 centimetres square.

The statue is signed by Santini on the statue itself and at the base.
