Antique Saint Christopher Medal, 22 carat Rolled Gold, French by FIX, Circa 1910, 2 centimetres diameter, 2 grams
A beautifully detailed Saint Christopher medal in 22 carat rolled gold. It was probably made as a communion medal but the reverse is not inscribed so it could make a superb Christening or Baptism present as it is in excellent condition.
It is 22 carat gold filled by FIX in France and it is marked FIX on the reverse . This method involves pressing two sheets of gold onto a medal which is usually made of silver or copper or bronze.
With FIX you can see where the two sheets of gold have been joined at the edge. It means there is a lot more gold on a FIX medal or brooch than gold plating. In fact companies that buy gold will not by plated items but will buy FIX because of the high gold content.
The medal is 2 cm in diameter not including the bale.
