Antique Linen Petticoat, Pure French Linen, Hand Made, Autumn/Winter Weight, Triple Hem, Lovely Embroidery, Drawstring Top, Circa 1870
I was really pleased to find this lovely petticoat at a recent antique fair. It is completely hand made and hand stitched from home spun French linen and dates from the second part of the 19th century.
It has a split on one side with a drawstring at the top for fastening. At the bottom there is a triple layer of hem and the last one has a lovely lace detail so it was obviously designed to be on show below the dress.
In excellent condition and with very little use. There are, of course, some light storage stains that will come out with an overnight soak and a wash. There are no tears or darns.
Top across 19 inches
Side split 8.5 inches
Mid width 30 inches (60 around)
Bottom width 34 inches (68 around)
Total length 32 inches
