Solid Silver Rosary, 925 Silver with 22 Carat Gold Plating, Unique, 5 Decade, Leather Pouch, Beautiful Condition, Circa 1880
This absolutely stunning rosary is solid 925 silver whilst the chain, Corpus Christi and six medals are 22 carat gold plated. It is totally unique as it was made as a confirmation gift for a noble family in the south west of France in around 1880.
The cross measures 4 x 2 centimetres and has the Fleur de Lys of France at each point. As does the reverse where there is also a four leaf clover in the centre.
There are six 'Our Father' medals which measure 1.2 x 0.8 centimetres, three are Marian medals with the head of The Virgin Mary on one side and the Marian symbol on the reverse. Three of the medals have the head of Christ on one side and the Chi Rho symbol on the reverse.
The Chi-Rho symbol dates back to the early days of Christianity and is a sacred fusion of 2 Greek letters, chi (X) and rho (P). These are the first two letters of the Greek word "Christos.", meaning Christ. For this reason, the Chi-Rho symbol holds deep significance as a picture of Jesus Christ Himself. It serves as a potent reminder of His life, His teachings, and His ultimate sacrifice for humanity. When we see the Chi-Rho, we're reminded of the deep love and redemption that Christ offers to all who believe in Him.
The link medal is 1.5 x 1.5 cm and has the initials A P engraved on the reverse. In addition there are 53 solid silver medals with the head of The Virgin Mary on one side and the Marian symbol on the reverse.
The whole rosary measures 54 centimetres in length and weighs a full 32.6 grams. It is, of course, completely hand made by a superb craftsman.
I am very confident there will never be another rosary like this one.
It will ship with full international tracking as standard.
