Virgin Mary Wedding Statue, French Porcelain De Paris, Circa 1870, Rare Example, Excellent Condition, 21.4 CM Tall

A really beautiful statue of The Virgin Mary in porcelain de Paris made around 1870 and would have been a wonderful wedding present at the time.

These statues were almost always given as wedding presents and the two outstretched hands of The Virgin Mary represented the two parties to the marriage.

Why this one is so rare is that, usually, when one partner died, one of the hands was cut off and then when the second passed the second hand was struck. It is for this reason that so few of these beautiful statues have survived intact.

This one is in excellent condition with vibrant colours and only very minor rubbing to the wonderful gilding.

It would, of course, make a superb wedding present.

It stands 21.4 centimetres tall and is 8 centimetres at its widest point.
