Antique Christian Statue, The Virgin Mary Sacred Heart, French, Gilded Spelter Statue Circa 1860
A beautifully detailed statue of The Virgin Mary with The Sacred Heart standing on a plynth.
It is made of spelter, or regule as it would be called in France, which is a form of cast bronze. It was originally created as a cheaper alternative to bronze but it was quickly discovered that casting with spelter could give a much more detailed cast and so it became extremely popular in its own right.
This gorgeous statue stands 21 centimetres tall and is 7 centimetres at its widest point.
It is signed M R on the reverse
