Antique Nun's Rosary, Steel Chain and Link Medal With Bronze and Ebony Cross, Hematite Beads, Early 19th Century
Such a lovely little rosary with lots of history attached to it. Clearly it is a nun's rosary as it is of steel throughout. Simple and unobtrusive, it was made to be used and not to show off.
It is small and delicate as it measures just 33 centimetres in length.
The beads are of hematite which is a deep black stone that looks like jet or ebony but is very light. The whole rosary weighs just 19 grams although it is a full five decades and is 42 centimetres in length.
The cross is of light bronze inset with ebony and measures 2.5 x 1 centimetres.
