Bronze Alma Mater after Sandro Botticelli, signed L de Helley, French Circa 1890, 15x11 Centimetres on Wooden base

A lovely bronze plaque with a beautiful patina of age.

It has 'Botticelli' at the bottom left but, of course, this was not made by Sandro Botticelli but rather it is inspired by his painting of The Madonna and Child and was created by the French medallic artist de Helley and it bears his signature on the right.

On the reverse is hand written 'De Maman, Lors du partage a Vivier des 8 enfants' which translates to 'From Mother, when sharing with the eight children at Vivier'. I imagine that this was sent with a child who was on her way to the cathedral at Vivier in the Ardeche region of France.
