This antique portable Stations of the Cross shrine was made in Lourdes, France, circa 1910. It features 14 pewter engravings arranged as a folding triptych, with a small central palm cross and tan leather binding decorated with gold blocking. Measuring 10.5 × 7 × 0.5 cm, it closes with a press clasp and is in immaculate condition, including the bindings.
This is a stunning example of a portable shrine showing the 14 stations of the cross beautifully bound in tan leather which has been extensively gold blocked. It is pocket sized so can be easily carried everywhere as it measures 10.5 x 7 x 0.5 centimetres.
It is held securely when closed by a press clasp.
The engravings are arranged as a tryptic and in the centre is a small palm cross.
It was made by one of the superb artisans at Lourdes at the beginning of the 20th century and dates from around 1910 but even so it is in immaculate condition.
I have seen several examples over the years but they are invariably damaged, particularly along the bindings but there is no such problem here.
