Lourdes Drinking Cup, French Circa 1900, Mother of Pearl With Copper Chatelaine and Belt Clip
The lovely figure of Our Lady of Lourdes has a copper clip behind so that it fasten to a belt or a large rosary. It was originally silver plated but has been much loved and used over the many decades and most of the silver has rubbed away. It is attached to a copper chain which is itself attached to the beautiful mother of pearl shell that forms the cup.
The shell is simply engraved 'Lourdes'. It would have hung from the belt of a priest or nun or one of the many hundreds of thousands of pilgrims that have visited Lourdes since 1858 and taken the water from the Holy Spring.
Amazingly, both the small statue and the shell are in perfect condition.
The statue measures 5 x 1.r centimetres, the chain is 15 centimetres long and the shell is 10 x 6 x 3 centimetres.
