Holy Water Font, Oak Base With Gilded Bronze Plate and Bronze Corpus Christi, Presentation to Louis Tisserand 1906, 30x16 Centimetres
This is a beautiful antique Holy Water Font, or Benitier as it would be called In France which dates from around 1906.
It was made as a presentation gift, probably on his confirmation, for Louis Tisserand who was the Godson of Albert Boudot-Lamotte. That much is easy as it has the plate on the back.
Albert was the brother of Maurice Boudot-Lamotte who was a famous French artist born in 1878 and died in 1958. A painting by him hangs in the world famous Louvre museum in Paris as well as many other prestigious museums around France.
The base is of solid oak while the font is of gilded bronze and the Corpus Christi is of plain bronze and an exquisite work.
The whole piece measure 30 x 16 centimetres and it has a bronze ring in the back for wall hanging.
Considering the provenance it is no wonder that this is such a beautifully made Holy Water Font.
This lovely font will ship with a small amount of water from the Holy Spring at Lourdes
