This stunning crucifix is hand made from solid bronze into which is set and oak cross with bronze Corpus Christi and INRI plaque. It is a substantial cross as it measures measures 24 x 11 centimetres.

Often a Profession Crucifix is described as such because of its size and quality but in this case it is perfectly accurate as I know the history of this beautiful cross and the wonderful man who owned it and I would like to share it with you.

Louis Lantiez came from a wealthy Parisian family who owned considerable property in the city. In fact there is Rue Lantiez in the 17th arrondissement named because it bordered the estate of the Lantiez family. However, Louis eschewed the wealth of his family and when he was ordained as a priest in 1852 he joined the Congregation of Religious of Saint Vincent De Paul and dedicated his life to helping the poor of Paris.

Founded in 1845, in the midst of the industrial revolution, in Paris, the Congregation of Religious of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul is dedicated to the evangelization of working-class circles, of “working-class families”.

With their motto “May Christ be announced in all ways“, the Religious Fathers and Brothers of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul naturally turned to the education of youth and assistance to the poor.

In December 1908, Marie Toublet met Father Lantiez. He passed on to her "the spirit of Jean Léon Le Prevost", love of the poor, respect for human dignity, humility, tenacious trust in God, tenderness of heart, the presence of Christ in the man.

Marie Toublet, went on to found the Sisters of Marie Reconciliatrice. She wrote on September 11, 1921, the first day of living together for our first Sisters: "May this mustard seed, humble little family that we are, rise and become a big tree if it is to be remain in fervor; but let it perish if it does not live for Your glory”.

From 1921, the history of Marie Toublet merges with that of the Institute of the Sisters of Marie Reconciliatrice. Separate from the “government”, it is through her hidden life and all given that she participates in the building of the religious family that she herself initiated. It is at the cost of its inhabited silence that the Institute of the Sisters of Marie Reconciliatrice can exist, be formed and grow. She died in Rochecorbon on November 14, 1973. From Marie Toublet to Mother Mary of the Cross, the arc of her life shone on her loved ones, religious and laity, children and adults. She is one of the little-known women whose prophetic vocation grows the Church. Her life resisted daily, without brilliance, in patience, asceticism, silence, and gives us a model of compassion and reconciliation.
