This is a really lovely and good sized pendant cross. Beautifully crafted in France. It bears the maker's mark in a square, so it is not solid golf but you would never know from looking at it.
It is 22 carat rolled gold which is called 'Fix' here in France. This method involves pressing two sheets of gold onto a medal which is usually made of silver, copper or bronze. In this case it is silver.
With fix you can see where the two sheets of gold have been joined at the edge. It means there is a lot more gold on a fix medal or brooch or cross than normal gold plating. In fact companies that buy gold will not by plated items but will buy fixe because of the high gold content. I would estimate that there is just over 1 gram of gold.
This beautiful cross is 4.2 x 2.5 centimetres, not including the bale, and it weighs 3.8 grams.
