Michel De Montaigne by Jacques-Édouard Gatteaux in Bronze dated 1817 4.2 Centimetres Diameter

Jacques-Édouard Gatteaux was a French sculptor and medal engraver. Born in Paris, he studied under his father Nicolas-Marie Gatteaux and Jean-Guillaume Moitte. He won first prize in the prix de Rome in 1809 and was elected a member of the Académie des beaux-arts in 1845 and of the Institut de France

Medals by him are in many famous museums around the world including the Met.

This beautiful medal of Michel de Montaigne is included in Christian Collections because, not only was Montaigne one of the most famous philosophers of France but he was also responsible for the translation of the Catalan monk Raymond Sebond's Theologia naturalis, which he published a year after his father's death in 1568
