Rare Christian Medal By Adolphe Penin Of Lyon, Virgin Mary With Lourdes Grotto Scene on Reverse, Circa 1910, Excellent Condition
Adolphe Penin was the grandson of Ludovic Penin. He was born in 1888 and took up the family business, after graduating from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts of Lyon and then of Paris but only a very few medals bear his signature 'Penin of Lyon' because he was seriously wounded during the 1914-1918 war and his wounds ended his career.
So this is a very rare example of his work.
It is a wonderful medal of Our Blessed Mother The Virgin Mary with the inscription 'I am the immaculate conception'.
On the reverse is the traditional scene of the grotto at Lourdes with Saint Bernadette seeing the vision of Mary.

It measures 3 centimetres in diameter, not including the bale
