Holy Water Font, Central Medal Of The Virgin Mary With Jesus By Michail Jampolsky, Solid Silver With Gold Plated, Halos, Circa 1890
Michail Jampolsky was born in Kiev, Ukraine. He studied under the great Parisian medallists Dupuis, Ponscarme and Rasumny and settled in Paris, producing bronzes, glassware and other artefacts in the Art Nouveau style.
The central medallion is wonderfully detailed, solid silver and plated in 18ct gold. France did not use gold of a lower quality than 18ct for either plated or solid items. It is large at 7 x 5.5 centimetres. The font is mouth blown glass and the base is a beautiful creamy white alabaster.
The whole piece weighs 485 grams and including the base measures 17 x 11.5 centimetres.
