Antique Lourdes Rosary, Large Hand Cut Amethyst Beads, Solid Silver Trefoil Cross, Link Medal and Chain, Full Five Decade, Late 19th Century
There is no way that any photo can do justice to this stunning rosary. However, I have to try but what I can do is describe it for you.
First the beads. Each one is beautifully mounted and each bead is hand cut amethyst. This rosary is a full five decades so there are 59 beads.
The the link medal, which is The Virgin Mary on one side and the scene from the grotto at Lourdes on the other, is of solid silver.
Finally the beautiful trefoil cross which once again is solid silver. The cross is interesting because it shows the age of the rosary. To the right of the Corpus Christi is an image of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception which was completed in 1871 but does not show the Rosary Basilica where the building work started in 1883. So this lovely rosary was made between 1871 and 1883 and bought by a pilgrim to Lourdes.
You may have noticed that I like this rosary a lot. It is just a delight and I am so pleased to be able to offer it having rescued it at a recent chateau sale.
It is 41 cm in length and weighs 22 grams
