Antique Faience Cross Wall Plaque, Faience Of Nevers France 1750-1800, Lovely Condition, Slight Repair At Base, Artists Fingerprint at Rear
A stunning faience cross made as a wall plaque by the Nevers factory Manufacture de faïence de Nevers between 1750 and 1800.
There has been a slight damage to the edge of the base and this has been 'touched up' by a previous owner but does not detract from the beauty of this extremely rare piece of french porcelain.
In perfect condition it would rival a piece that is currently on sale with Proantic for 280 euros. It is not in perfect condition and I bought it at an antique fair for a very reasonable price so can offer it here at a very affordable price. As this type of soft paste porcelain is quite fragile it is almost impossible to find a piece like this that is over 270 years old that does not have a few chips missing. Surprisingly, other than the scratching at the bottom edge, there are no chips so it must have been hanging on a wall until just before I bought it.
What is really cool is that it has an impression of a fingerprint from the original artist in the porcelain at the rear.
It measures 16 x 10.5 cm.
