Portable Stations Of The Cross Shrine, Pewter Engravings Set On Tan Leather, Gold Blocked, Beautiful Condition
This is a stunning example of a portable shrine showing the 14 stations of the cross beautifully bound in tan leather which has been extensively gold blocked. It is pocket sized so can be easily carried everywhere as it measures 10.5 x 7 x 0.5 centimetres.
It is held securely when closed by a press clasp.
The engravings are arranged as a tryptic and in the centre is a small palm cross.
It was made by one of the superb artisans at Lourdes at the beginning of the 20th century and dates from around 1910 but even so it is in immaculate condition.
I have seen several examples over the years but they are invariably damaged, particularly along the bindings but there is no such problem here.
