Vintage French Metis Linen Sheet, Unused, Beautiful Quality, Circa 1920, From Hotel Du Parc
Superb quality metis sheet from the old Hotel Du Parc in Boulogne sur Gesse in the Haute Pyrenees region of France.
I was very fortunate to be on hand when the elderly lady who owns the old Hotel Du Parc sold off all the linen as the hotel, which had been closed for many years was sold. This sheet comes from there and has never been used or washed.
As it is completeIy unused I have not washed it so that it retains its original flax and stiffness. This sheet will soften beautifully and after a few washes will be snowy white.
Metis was first produced in around 1910 as an easy iron alternative to pure linen. It is almost pure as only about 15% of the material is cotton. It gives a whiter softer feel than linen and was very popular as dowry presents which this sheet probably was.
This beautiful sheet measures 80 inches by 112 inches
