Joan of Arc Christian Medal/Brooch In Silvered Bronze By George Henri Prud'Homme, Paris Mint Mark Cornucopia Circa 1895

This is a beautiful large medal, which has been set as a brooch, designed by George Henri Prud'Homme and struck by the Paris mint in around 1895. It has the Cornucopia mark on the reverse which was used from 1880-1898 and then once again in 1901.

George Prud'Homme was born in Capbreton in 1873 and died in 1847 and was one of the finest medallic artists of France. He studied under Falguière and Alfred Dubois.

His design has been used many times since his death but this beautiful medal was struck during his lifetime as is evidenced by the Cornucopia mark on the reverse.

In any event the design had to have been created before 1925 as the inscription is Jeanne D'arc, Joan of Arc, and not Saint Joan as she became in 1925.

It is made from silvered bronze so at first glance it appears to be solid silver and is in excellent condition. It is also large as it measures 5 centimetres in diameter. It weighs 31.3 grams.

On the reverse it has a lovely barrel clasp which works perfectly.
