Antique Loudes Medal Signed Tairac, 22 carat Rolled Gold, French Fixe, Circa 1910, 2 centimetre diameter, 2 grams
This lovely pendant medal was made as a souvenir of a pilgrimage to Lourdes at the beginning of the 20th century and is in excellent condition.
This is the explanation for the image on this beautiful communion medal and the significance of the chalice on the reverse.
It is 22 carat gold filled which is called 'Fix' here in France. This method involves pressing two sheets of gold onto a medal which is usually made of copper or bronze.
With fix you can see where the two sheets of gold have been joined at the edge. It means there is a lot more gold on a fixe medal or brooch than normal gold plating. In fact companies that buy gold will not by plated items but will buy fixe because of the high gold content.
The medal is 2 cm in diameter.
The whole piece weighs 2 grams
