Antique Baptism Spoon, French Métal argenté, By Louis Poulain With Solid Silver Virgin Mary Medal Signed By Lassere, Circa 1910

You could be forgiven for wondering why a silver plated spoon is doing on my Christian site. Well the answer is simple because it was made by the Paris jeweler Louis Poulain as a baptism present for a client.

It is stamped métal argenté, which is a method of coating bronze with silver popular in France at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

The other stamp in the bowl is that of Poulin with the Cross of Lorraine which was his trademark.

The medal of The Virgin Mary is solid silver and came from the workshop of Andre Palme and is signed by the designer who was Lassere. It is a lovely little medal and the halo above Our Blessed Mother is in gold leaf.
